Why ISO 27001 matters when choosing a video platform

Not everything that matters is visible. Performance and design are easy to judge, but security, privacy, and internal controls are not. Those are often the areas where the biggest risks sit.

That’s why we use the international ISO 27001 standard to structure how we approach security. ISO 27001 is a widely recognized international standard for information security management. It provides a clear framework for assessing whether security is embedded in the way a platform operates.

ISO 27001 certification as a signal of trust

ISO 27001 certification is best understood as a signal of operational maturity. Achieving certification means that security responsibilities are defined, risks are actively managed, and processes are documented and repeatable. Without this structure, security often depends on individuals rather than systems, making it harder to scale and easier for things to be missed.

Certified organizations like Mave are required to demonstrate each year, through independent audits, that these processes are working in practice. This provides our customers with greater certainty, as our ISMS (Information Security Management System) is built to ensure accountability and transparency. In other words, security is something we have to demonstrate continuously.

Information security goes beyond technology

Information security goes beyond just code or infrastructure. Through our ISMS, we protect information across the entire organization from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. This covers not only our own data, but also that of our customers.

This becomes particularly important in a world where modern platforms, including Mave, rely heavily on open source components. While open source offers flexibility and transparency, it also introduces responsibility: security depends on how well these components are managed. Through our ISMS, we ensure they are continuously monitored, regularly updated, and clearly owned.

ISO 27001 provides the framework behind this approach. It defines how access is managed, systems are maintained, incidents are handled, and data is protected throughout its lifecycle. In practice, this means controlled access, secure authentication, regular updates, and a documented, tested process for incident response.

ISO in practice: experience you don’t have to manage

Becoming certified is not easy. It requires time, discipline, and organization-wide commitment. That effort translates into operational experience we use every day: security discussions are more focused, audits run more smoothly, and compliance questions can be answered more efficiently.

For our customers, this translates into less back-and-forth, faster security reviews, and fewer surprises during procurement.

This becomes increasingly important as Mave is integrated into larger digital ecosystems, particularly in public and semi-public organizations, where structured security assurance is a baseline requirement. IT, legal, and security teams can work with confidence, knowing that information security is structured, documented, and aligned with GDPR standards. Instead of validating everything from scratch, they can rely on a clear and recognized foundation.

Managing risk with ISO 27001

The ISMS helps us actively identify and manage not only today’s risks, but also any that may arise in the future. Risks are assessed, changes are reviewed, and improvements are continuous. This makes Mave - both as a platform and as a company - more resilient, especially as regulations, technology, and usage continue to evolve. For our customers, it means we’re not only prepared when something goes wrong, but actively working to prevent issues before they impact them.

ISO 27001 at Mave

Mave is built for organizations that want to use video without compromising on privacy, security, or European control. Our ISO 27001 certification shows that our information security practices are structured, audited, and continuously improved.

That gives customers a stronger foundation for trust and less to figure out on their own.
